CGTN

A Chinese mainland official has slammed a recent decision by Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party to reduce the number of exchanges between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland.

An Fengshan, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks on Thursday. He reiterated that unification with Taiwan is an "unstoppable historic trend" that is upheld by people across the Strait.

An Fengshan accused the Democratic Progressive Party of blocking the communication between the two sides and damaging the legitimate rights of people.

He said China will continue to push to deepen cooperation across the Strait in terms of economic and cultural exchanges, to bring real benefits to Taiwan residents.

He added that China will strive for peaceful unification with utmost sincerity and will stand firm in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
