Chinese President Xi Jinping landed in South Africa's administrative capital of Pretoria on Monday evening, ahead of the much-anticipated 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.
On behalf of South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, Foreign Minister Lindiwe Sisulu welcomed President Xi and his wife Madame Peng Liyuan at the airport.
While the two leaders held bilateral talks in Pretoria, security forces, mounted policemen and heavy-armed vehicles were monitoring the streets around the Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg, which is where the BRICS conference will take place.
At 8 am Tuesday, CGTN and CCTV’s Mandarin reporting teams arrived in the media center inside the venue for a live-cross.
The media center is originally a cargo delivery warehouse, but it has been temporarily transformed and the process of turning it into a fully functional studio is ongoing.
