The 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games opened in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 6. Its Athletes Village provides entertainment and activities in addition to accommodation.
Upon entering the village, the first area is the international zone which, is a popular place for the athletes to indulge in fun activities and alternative sports in their downtime. Athletes from all over the world are allowed to leave the village only when the Games are completely over, so they have lots of opportunities to get to know their fellow competitors.
"I feel good, and I have been focusing on the events taking place over the next few days, so I haven't gone around," said Chinese gymnast Fan Xinyi. "I usually go upstairs to rest after dinner, and I am planning to enjoy myself more after the competition. The room is good because it has bunk beds, and I had never slept in those before."

The actual accommodations took about two years to complete and were finished in May this year. There are five apartment blocks containing 30 buildings and a fitness center. These house approximately 7,600 athletes and coaches as well as 2,400 staff to serve the guests. After the Games, the facilities will be sold as homes.
