In 1997, Song discovered a vast, uncharted land in Huaxi county and started the decade-long constructing of Yelang Valley. /Xinhua Photo

To make sure the project is environmentally friendly, the artist utilized the natural surroundings, carving stones from the mountain and creating sculptures with ceramic jars. Local villagers supported Song’s work and volunteered to help build the castle. /Xinhua Photo
