Chinese Premier Li Keqiang arrived in Japan on Tuesday for an official visit and to take part in the seventh meeting among the leaders of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Tokyo.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, it is the first visit to Japan by a Chinese Premier in the past eight years, and he will hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Later, Premier Li is scheduled to attend the China-Japan-ROK leaders' meeting, which will be held after a hiatus of two-and-a-half years. The meeting was last held in Seoul in November 2015.
Ahead of the trip to Japan, Premier Li paid an official visit to Indonesia, the first stop on his first overseas trip since China's new cabinet took office in March.
