The trade drama between Jimmy Butler and the Minnesota Timberwolves took another turn as Shams Charania from The Athletic reported that Butler attended the team's practice on Sunday and is expected to play in their regular season opener against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.
Jon Krawczynski, who has been following reports on the Timberwolves, said that the team's owner Glen Taylor was at the scene during Sunday's training session. This came as a surprise considering that Butler said, "You (expletive) need me! You can't win without me!" to Minnesota's general manager Scott Layden less than a week ago in a training session.

Whatever is behind Butler's return, it should be good news to the Timberwolves because the team's performance during the preseason games were catastrophic. After they won the first game, Minnesota lost all of the following four games by 81 points in total, all without Butler. As the competition in the Western Conference is set to become even more intense, the team will definitely need the four-time All-Star player if they want to enter the playoffs.
Charania also reported that the Miami Heat, which came close reaching a deal with the Timberwolves over Butler, will not reopen the negotiation for now.
It should make Minnesota happier as Krawczynski said that the team's swingman Andrew Wiggins told him: "All I know is when we start playing the real games, Jimmy is someone you want on your team."
Though it has been widely reported that Wiggins is one of the reasons why Butler wants to leave, the statement by the 23-year-old young man at least will be okay if Butler stays.

Butler asked Minnesota to trade him after the 2017-18 season and listed several teams he wanted to go to. Since then, the negotiations did not go well, as the Timberwolves asked a lot in return from the deal. Having reclaimed his request multiple times, Butler was so upset that he confronted his teammates, head coach and even the GM during the training session on Oct. 10.
Before Charania's report on Sunday, most had already been convinced that Butler would leave Minnesota. However, even if he would play in the opener, it does not mean that Butler is not leaving. ESPN's Bobby Marks wrote on Twitter on Sunday, "There will be a team during the regular season that thinks they are a Jimmy Butler away from competing for a championship. Don't be surprised when Minnesota gets a more appealing offer compared to now."
