A powerful 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck the U.S. state of Alaska on November 30, causing people to run from buildings and prompting a tsunami alert for coastal areas. The quake hit at about 8:30 a.m. local time to the northeast of Anchorage, home to about 40 percent of the state's population, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The tsunami warning was later canceled.
