With a passport and an International Driving Permit, you can easily rent a recreational vehicle (RV) in China and take your loved ones for a tailor-made trip.

China is embracing RV travel. More and more Chinese customers overseas, such as in Australia, choose to tour in such vehicles to experience the beauty of nature. 

Meanwhile, figures show that the RV market in China is rapidly increasing. Numbers of registered companies in the RV business in China increased from 775 in 2016 to 1,418 in 2017, then to 1,853 till the end of 2018. We benefit from this rapid growth as well as fierce market competition, as we enjoy rental price drops and better qualities of cars and services. Daily rental fees for a decent RV of four to six people falls between 600 yuan (about 88.96 U.S. dollars) and 1,000 yuan (about 148.26 U.S. dollars).

We chose three routes, from north to south, from the wild and free grassland, the romantic desert, the life of an ethnic group in China, to the boundless ocean. There are enough RV parks and campgrounds on your route to free you from the concerns of electricity, diesel, and water.

Hainan Province

We set five pins on your map. Hopefully you don't mind. RVs can be easily rented in the city of Haikou, and returned at the city of Sanya, two of the largest cities in this province, located at the north end and the south end of Hainan respectively. 

Along the east coast, the driving distance from Haikou in the north to Sanya is about 285 kilometers. The west coastline is just as beautiful. It takes longer to get to Sanya, at about 361 kilometers. Pictures below are symbolic features of these spots, but for sure, there's more to be discovered. The total pins are Haikou City, Wenchang City, Shimei Bay of Wanning City, as well as Sanya City's Wuzhizhou Island Resort and Yalong Bay.

Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

With this one, the end goal is Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village. Word by word, “Xijiang” is the city, “Qianhu” means a thousand households, and “Miao” is the name of the ethnic group in China we're about to learn. You can either set out from Guiyang or Guilin. Both cities are hot tourist choices in China. It is about 222 kilometers from Guiyang to Xijiang, and the other route is almost double the distance.

Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

Chifeng City is the camp base of the places we will be going to, including Wulanbutong Grassland, Desert of Yulong, and Huanggangliang National Forest Park, all within 250 kilometers from the city. Besides the stunning views, perhaps you'd like to spend some time diving into life on the grassland, living in a local yurt, and showing off your horse riding skills. There are flights from Beijing to Chifeng every day, which take about one hour.
