Paolo Maldini, an AC Milan legend, will return to the club as the new sporting strategy and development director, reported Sky Sports on Sunday.
“There are few words to describe what Paolo Maldini represents for AC Milan. Today's appointment is yet another sign of Elliott's commitment to build a strong foundation for long-term success,” said Paolo Scaroni, AC Milan’s chief executive, according to Sky Sports.

As one of the three most successful clubs of Serie A, AC Milan lost their magic. The team hasn't ranked higher than No.6 since 2013. Introducing Maldini, one of the greatest players in their history could be seen as part of their efforts for restoration.
“It will not be easy and it will take time, but we have ambitious objectives, and Paolo's appointment is an important step toward returning AC Milan to where it belongs,” said Scaroni.

Fifty-year-old Maldini will join his former teammates, manager Gennaro Gattuso and sporting director Leonardo, in hopes of bringing back a moment of glory to San Siro. With Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain joining the team from Juventus, AC Milan’s first goal in the new season is to return to the UEFA Champions League.
Maldini played 647 games for AC Milan in Serie A and 161 games in European tournaments to win seven Serie A champions and five UEFA Champions League titles for the club. He has also made 126 appearances for Italy’s national team. In 1995, Maldini became the first back nominated for the FIFA World Player of the Year award and received the Silver Award.
