In Shantou City, south China's Guangdong Province, a fire broke out in the chess and card room on the first floor of a residential building. The fire department immediately dispatched forces to fight the blaze and by 9:32 p.m., the fire was put out. Five died and eight more were injured. On October 14, the district government officially reported that the incident was caused by arson. The investigation into the case is ongoing and the leading suspect is believed to be one of those injured by the flames.
