Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday on the sidelines of the G20 summit and they agreed to increase mutual trust and bring the bilateral ties to a higher level.
Xi said that China-India relations have seen an increasingly positive momentum, which not only brings growth impetus for the two countries but also injects stability and certainty into the global system at a time of profound changes.
Xi said China and India should effectively use the dialogue mechanisms between the two countries in border talks, defense and security, trade and cultural exchanges.
"We need to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, poverty alleviation, environment protection, disaster prevention and so on," said Xi.
The president also called on the two countries to enhance coordination within the framework of multilateral mechanisms including the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS.
Speaking of the challenges in world economy, Xi said China and India should work together to seek open global economy and promote economic globalization to develop toward a more open, inclusive, and balanced direction.
Modi, for his part, said President Xi highly values bilateral ties and has promoted the development of India-China relationship.
The Indian side is willing to enhance mutual trust with China, and safeguard peace and stability in the border areas of the two countries, said Modi.
