Recently, online travel agency Ctrip.com International has been seeking to expand and develop its overseas presence, which includes its catering services. The company has now launched its own restaurant appraisal list, trying to compete with Michelin and Meituan Dianping.
A gourmet list ‘Local Restaurant Recommendation’, released by Ctrip Gourmet, a Ctrip’s institute for gourmet evaluation on June 22 this year in Bangkok, Thailand, has been noted the first publication of a Chinese eatery list abroad.
Meituan Dianping, which has been considered as one of the rivals with Ctrip’s Gourmet, does not have wide overseas catering markets than its domestic one. In addition, when comparing with Michelin Guide, Ctrip’s Gourmet List centers more on the Chinese carting culture and customs, which might have more preference on the Chinese people’s tastes. All these mean that Ctrip Gourmet List might have bright future to expand abroad.
It is noted that Ctrip Gourmet List has covered approximately 15,000 restaurants in 120 popular destinations both domestically and abroad by the end of 2017. In the coming future, Ctrip will release local gourmet lists in Japan and other overseas travel destinations.
