Pakistan coal mine explosion kills at least 16

At least 16 people were killed when a coal mine caved in and triggered a gas explosion in southwest Pakistan.

Nine others were injured in the incident in Marwaarh, east of Quetta, Balochistan province’s capital city.

Efforts to rescue trapped miners are still underway.

Accidents are frequent in the area’s mines due to poor safety measures.

In 2011, a gas explosion at a Balochistan mine killed more than 40 people.
