There are 26 monarchies around the world, and 11 of these are in Asia. Many Asian countries still have a monarchy, ranging from absolute, constitutional and ceremonial. In Southeast Asia, some monarchies have successfully entrenched their rule against the tide of democracy while others play a much more symbolic role.
