MOFA: China welcomes third Moon-Kim summit

China welcomes the third inter-Korean summit between Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong Un to be held in mid-September, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Thursday. 

"As a close neighbor to the Korean peninsula, China has always been pleased to see and in support of two Koreas remain direct conversations in seek of the denuclearization and permanent peace of the peninsula," Hua said. 

"China will continue to play a positive and constructive role in establishing a lasting peace mechanism on the Peninsula." 

The summit between President Moon of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Kim, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s top leader, is scheduled to be held on Sept. 18-20. 

On Sept. 5, the ROK's top national security adviser Chung Eui-yong met Kim and delivered a letter from Moon. The DPRK leader reconfirmed his firm commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula during the meeting.
