Even though the Chinese challenge in singles is already over, China’s Xu Yifan has kept the hopes for her country alive as she partnered with Germany's Gabriela Dabrowski to progress to Round of 16 in the women’s doubles at the 2018 French Open.
Xu took on Kaitlyn Christian of the US and Carina Witthoeft of Germany in the second round AT Roland Garros on Saturday.
Starting as favorites against their unseeded rivals, the 5th seeded duo of Xu and Dabrowski took a 4-0 early lead after breaking their opponents’ serve twice before going on to win the first game 6-2.

Xu continued the momentum with her German partner in the second and they need just 63 minutes to seal the victory 6-2, 6-2.
They will take on the Japanese pair of Eri Hozumi and Makoto Ninomiya in the last 16.
Meanwhile, in another women's doubles match on Saturday, China's Wang Qiang and Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania went down fighting 6-3, 7-5 against the 3rd seeded Slovenia-Spain pair of Andreja Klepac and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in the second round.
