The International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) World Masters Championship got underway in Hengshui, Hebei Province in China with the hosts picking up two wins in the men's weiqi, also known as the game of go, to top the six team group on Tuesday.
Earlier, in the opening game, China overcame their contest against Chinese Taipei. In their second fixture, the Chinese pairing of Ke Jie and Mi Yuting won the contest 2-1 with Mi suffering a shock defeat to Lin Li-Hsiang.
Luckily his teammates were on hand to win their contests and then all three won their individual contests against the South Korean trio.
On the women's side, Yu Zhiying and Wang Chenxing lost to their South Korean counterparts and as a result, it's now impossible for them to clinch the title. As far as the bridge event is concerned, the top ranked U.S. side won't be participating, but China are not fielding their side to fill that void as a replacement team.
The men's team are currently in third position while the women's team is in fourth. The top two teams will play in the final.
