The new conditions between China and New Zealand have created new opportunities, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a daily news briefing on Tuesday.
New Zealand has been a pace-setter among Western developed countries in terms of relations with China, Geng added.
The spokesperson's remarks came after a statement made by New Zealand's prime minister on Monday, in which Jacinda Ardern devoted six minutes to the "robust and mature relationship" between China and her country.
Ardern said her government's relationship with China was strong despite some complex issues.
She also hailed cooperation between the two sides on areas like climate change, trade, science, and cultural connections.
On Chinese IT giant Huawei, the New Zealand prime minister said it hasn't been ruled out of playing a role in the development of the nation's 5G wireless communications network, adding that her country will independently assess the risk of using the company in 5G networks.
