The 2018 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit opened in the eastern Chinese city of Qingdao with a performance extravaganza featuring a light and fireworks display that illuminated the night sky above the coastal city. Chapter one, “A Moonlit Night”, blurred the lines between Qingdao’s skyline and the stage, showing the moon rising above the sea. /CCTV NEWS

Chapter two, “The Charm of Shandong”, featured traditional folk elements representing Shandong Province with performances, dances and songs presented by the Laizhou Martial Arts School, Jiaozhou Yangko Children’s Theater and the Chengyang Second Experimental Primary School of Qingdao. /CCTV NEWS

Chapter three, “Nation of Peace and Prosperity”, featured performances by the Opera and Dance Drama Theater of Qingdao and Lanzhou, and reflected on such notions as life and happiness and the concept of people-centered development. /CCTV NEWS
