Republic of Korea (ROK) President Moon Jae-in said Thursday that he will carefully review the US-ROK joint military exercises if talks between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States continue during a National Security Council (NSC) meeting of the presidential Blue House to assess the DPRK-US summit and discuss response measures of the ROK's government.
"If North Korea (DPRK) sincerely carries out denuclearization steps and North Korea's (DPRK's) dialogue with the South (ROK) and the United States to resolve hostilities goes well, it will be necessary to flexibly change military pressure against the North (DPRK) to abide by the spirit of the Panmunjom Declaration," Moon said, referring to an agreement on better ties he made with the DPRK leader Kim Jong Un in an April summit.

US President Donald Trump has said that he would halt the US-South Korea war games as it is inappropriate to stage such "provocative" drills in the dialogue period after the historical summit with Kim.
Moon Jae-In also said on Thursday the world had escaped the threat of war after this week’s Singapore summit, echoing Trump’s upbeat assessment of his meeting with Kim.
“There have been many analyses on the outcome of the summit, but I think what’s most important was that the people of the world, including those in the United States, Japan and Koreans, have all been able to escape the threat of war, nuclear weapons and missiles,” Moon told visiting US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ahead of a meeting between the two in Seoul.
“I am confident that we took a very good, significant step in Singapore,” Pompeo told Moon on Thursday ahead of a trilateral meeting including Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono.
Pompeo said a day earlier he would like to accomplish major nuclear disarmament in DPRK within Trump’s current term.

“Absolutely ... you used the term major, major disarmament, something like that? We’re hopeful that we can achieve that in the two-and-a-half years,” he said.
The top US diplomat arrived in Seoul on Wednesday. Moon was given a personal account of the US-DPRK summit from Trump himself in a 20-minute telephone conversation, held only hours after Trump met Kim Jong Un in Singapore on Tuesday.
