Chinese women's volleyball team had a striking 3-0 win over their opponents from Azerbaijan with scores 28-17, 25-16, and 25-17 again in Pool F matches at the FIVB World Championship 2018 in Osaka, Japan, on Monday.
Among Team China's total 45 spikes, the top 11-attack honor gave credit to Captain Zhu Ting, followed by the Middle Blocker Yuan Xinyue with ten attacks. Yuan also had five serves and two blocks.
As a new force in women's volleyball, players from Azerbaijan previously competed in three world championships and finished 9th in their 1994 debut, 13th in 2006 and 15th in 2015. During the Monday match, they had an overall 31 spikes, four blocks and eight serves.
Coach Lang Ping of the Chinese team praised her players. "Our serve, reception and block all functioned well so we could win the game."
Her words had an echo with Captain Zhu who said after the match, "I thought it was a great match and we played really well." .
Another Chinese spiker Gong Xiangyu believed, "Everybody played well on the Azerbaijan side and at the beginning we could not get into our rhythm. Gradually our serve got better and we started blocking more effectively and this enabled us to win the match."
"We knew that China were a very strong team. They served well and we could not receive well, so this was a bad point in our play," commented Azerbaijan's Assistant Coach Famil Aghayev.
China will play the USA on Wednesday.
