The Information Office of the State Council held a press conference to elaborate China's stance towards the ongoing China-US trade war. Long Guoqiang, Vice President of the Development Research Center of the State Council, shared his insight on the China-US trade friction and its impact on the global economy.
Long said a trade war was not in anyone's interest and that China and the US should use talks to resolve disputes. He confirmed that China will continue its opening-up policy to firmly safeguard the interests of the nation and its people, and uphold economic globalization and the multilateral trade system.
"China and the US are the two largest economies in the world. China is the largest developing country and the US is the largest developed one. In recent decades, the two sides have achieved progress in trade and economic ties. The two economies are highly complementary to each other, and bilateral investment and trade has developed well. So we believe the two economies are mutually beneficial. Although there are some trade frictions, we should solve the dispute through dialogue and negotiation. China doesn't want a trade war. Waging a trade war doesn't conform to global interests," Long added.
