Sudan's defense minister announces president ousted after protests

In Sudan, the defense minister has announced the army had ousted and detained Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, one of Africa's longest-serving presidents, was brought down by months of anti-government protests against his three decades of iron-fisted rule. The defense minister announced a three-month state of emergency for Sudan and said a transitional military council would replace Bashir for two years; the country's borders and airspace will be shut until further notice.
