"China: World of Wonders" is a new Virtual Reality series focusing on 10 tourist destinations in the country. It was released as part of CGTN's coverage of the Two Sessions, one of China's most important annual political meetings currently underway in Beijing.
In our fourth episode of "China: World of Wonders", we head to Tai'an City in east China's Shandong Province.
Mount Tai is arguably the raison d'etre of Tai'an City, to which it has bestowed its name.
Towering at over 1,500 meters, Mount Tai has an impressive sublimity. It is one of only five sacred mountains in China, and within that group, it reigns supreme, proudly claiming the title "Chief of the Five Sacred Mountains" and featuring a stone inscription with the same message to officialize its status.
The word "Tai" in Chinese means stability and peace. The city's name, Tai'an, is attributed to the saying: "If Mount Tai is stable, so is the entire country".
