Cute giant panda babies take part in New Year celebration

A group of newborn giant pandas made their public debut on Thursday in Wolong in southwest China's Sichuan Province, as a way of celebrating the upcoming Chinese New Year, known as Spring Festival.

The eleven panda babies at Shenshuping base were born between June and October in 2018. During the whole year, the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda welcomed a total of 31 newborns, including seven pairs of twins. Among them,16 are males and 15 are females.

Over the past few years, the center has made great efforts in giant panda breeding and protection. By the end of 2018, it had a total of 285 captive giant pandas, accounting for some 60 percent of the world's total.

In late December, the center also released two giant pandas to the wild in a bid to improve the species' survival skills.
