The West African nation of Senegal covers a land area of almost 197,000 square kilometers and has an estimated population of 15.85 million.
Tourism has grown to be an important part of the country's economy. Since the 1990s, Senegal has made great efforts to reach beyond visitors from former colonial power France and gradually attracted more international tourists.
Considered as the country's landmark, the African Renaissance Monument, the tallest statue on the continent, is famous throughout the world. In addition, a new rural well-drilling project, which arises from the community and includes extensive community participation, could meet water supply needs for many communities in the future.
When it comes to the national economy, so far the national GDP has achieved 13.63 billion US dollars (901 US dollars per capita). Since Senegal re-established diplomatic ties with China in 2005, bilateral trade between the two countries has reached 2.19 billion US dollars, which makes China the African nation's second-largest trading partner.
