White House chief of staff John Kelly is expected to resign in the coming days, according to a report by CNN on Friday.
The White House has not made any comments related to this report yet. According to sources, U.S. President Donald Trump is actively discussing a replacement.
The rocky relationship between Trump and Kelly, 68, a retired Marine Corps general, has been widely reported.
Sources said their relationship was now worse than ever and that the two were not on speaking terms, but added that no decision on Kelly's possible departure was final until it was announced.
Meanwhile, Trump was considering a replacement for Kelly, a source told Reuters last month, adding that Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff, Nick Ayers, is a possible contender.
Kelly had sought to bring more order and stability to a White House that has often been chaotic under the unpredictable Trump, though he reportedly agreed to stay on as Trump's chief of staff until at least 2020.
