This is thought to be the first confirmed sighting of an African black panther in nearly a century, said researchers from the San Diego Zoo who were studying ordinary leopards in Kenya's Laikipia County, when the elusive cat made its debut. Black leopard – which is also called black panther – carry a gene mutation that turns them black.
