Giant panda Tian Tian turns 21 on Monday, and it is also the 18th birthday after he arrived at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington DC in the US since 2000.
The zoo held a celebration on Monday for Tian Tian, preparing a birthday cake made of fruits and ice. Many people visited the zoo to participate in the celebration.

After arriving in the US in 2000, Tian Tian and Mei Xiang have successfully breed three panda cubs: Tai Shan, Bao Bao and Bei Bei.
The average lifetime for captive-bred giant pandas is around 30, and Tian Tian, at the age of 21, is in his senior years. But according to the breeders, he is in good health at present.
