China is willing to boost cooperation with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in areas such as poverty alleviation, disease prevention, and agricultural technology research, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a meeting with Bill Gates in Beijing on Tuesday.
Wang called Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as an old friend of the Chinese people, and appreciated his constructive role in promoting China-US cooperation.
Wang encouraged the foundation to explore and expand tripartite cooperation in Africa, make contributions to Africa's sustainable development and jointly build the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
As two major countries in the world, both history and reality show that China and the US stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation, said Wang, calling the two countries to meet each other halfway.
Wang hoped Gates to play a positive role in promoting a healthy and stable China-US relation, along with those Americans who know about China.
Gates said that mutual benefit should be the central theme of US-China relations, expressing his willingness to enhance friendship between the two peoples.
