Trade and economic relations between China and the United States concern not only the well-being of the peoples of the two countries, but also world peace, prosperity and stability, Beijing said in a white paper published Monday on its position on trade friction with the US.
"Cooperation is the only correct option for China and the US, and only a win-win approach will lead to a better future. China's position is clear, consistent and firm," the white paper said.
Elaborating on China's position, it stressed that the country will resolutely defend its dignity and core interests, promote the healthy development of China-US economic and trade relations, safeguard the multilateral trade system and promote its reform and improvement, protect property rights and intellectual property rights, protect the legitimate rights and interests of foreign businesses in China, and deepen reform and opening up.

Though China does not want to fight a trade war, it is not afraid of fighting one and would have to fight one when necessary, the white paper said.
Given the fact that China has a strong and resilient economy and broad market space, the Chinese people are "diligent, intelligent and united," and China is supported by other countries in the world that "oppose protectionism, unilateralism and hegemony," Beijing has the "confidence, determination and capability" to deal with all sorts of risks and challenges, it stressed.
The white paper called for the resolution of economic and trade disputes between China and the US through bilateral consultation or the dispute settlement mechanism of the World Trade Organization (WTO), adding that their disputes should be resolved in manners acceptable to both sides.
"China's door for negotiation is always open," it noted. "But negotiation must be based on mutual respect, equality and the ability to keep one's promises and match one's deeds with one's words."
Negotiation cannot take place under the threat of tariffs, the white paper added, stressing that China will not sacrifice its right of development for the sake of trade talks.
Washington recently announced the imposition of additional 10-percent tariffs on 200 billion US dollars' worth of Chinese products from Monday.
