Imperial Palace of Phoenix Building is the only existing royal palace in China outside of the Forbidden City in Beijing. A square building with a yellow and green roof, it is decorated throughout with dragons. There is a great view of the city from the top of the building. /VCG Photo

The Phoenix Building was the highest building in the city of Shenyang at the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, which was built in 1625 when the founding emperor Nurhachi was in power. The Imperial Palace of Phoenix Building was finished in 1636 by his son Abahai (Huangtaiji). /VCG Photo
