An explosion was heard in the vicinity of Syria's al-Motahalik al-Janobi, south of Damascus on Sunday morning, Syrian state TV reported.
The explosion took place near a security branch in the south of the city.
Local media also said a military checkpoint in the city was targeted and the blast was a bomb explosion.
There are conflicting reports on the death toll of the attack.
State news agency SANA said that the bomb blast had caused an explosion "without leaving any victims."
"There is confirmation of reports that a terrorist has been arrested," it said.
However, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights earlier said there were some people killed and injured but they could not verify the toll immediately.
