2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics gold medal winner, 38-year-old Norwegian skier Vibeke Skofterud died in a jet-ski accident on Sunday.

Skofterud was reported missing on Saturday, and her body was found by rescuers near the island of St Helena, southern Norway on Sunday. Police say it may take several weeks to find out what led to the marine jet-ski accident that killed Skofterud.

Skofterud won gold in the 4x5-km relay at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. She's also won silver and bronze at the World Championship level, and stepped onto the podium 15 times at World Cup events. She retired from top-level competition in 2015.
