No.2 Seed Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark defeated China's Wang Qiang 2-0 in the semi-final of the women's singles at the 2018 China Open in Beijing on Saturday. Wozniacki will meet Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia in the final on Sunday.
Considering that both Wang and Wozniacki are counter-punchers, the contest became a contest of physical strength, patience and endurance. Wang was at a strength disadvantage and found it increasingly difficult to turn her defense into effective offensive play. She quickly lost the first set 1-6 to Wozniacki.

In the second set, Wang tried to reverse the situation by playing more patiently and look for counter-striking opportunities. Her efforts started to work as she took a service break in Game 4 and achieved her first lead in the the set with 3-2.
But soon Wozniacki adjusted her style, focused on her defensive play and won three consecutive games. In the end, the No.2 Seed finished the contest with a service break and won the second set 6-3.

Though Wang failed to make it into the final, she has already set her best personal record for WTA Premier tournaments by entering the semi-final. Moreover, Wang's WTA ranking will rise to No.24 after the event and hopefully make her a seeded player at the Australian Open in 2019.
In the other semi-final that ended earlier, Sevastova knocked the current US Open champion Naomi Osaka out 2-0.
