Iran summons European diplomats over parade attack

Iran has summoned Dutch, Danish and British diplomats over Saturday's terror attack in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz, accusing them of hosting terrorist groups, state news agency IRNA reported citing the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

"It is not acceptable that the European Union does not blacklist members of these terrorist groups as long as they do not perpetrate a crime on the European soil," the ministry's spokesperson Bahram Qasemi was quoted as saying.

Qasemi was referring to the Al-Ahvazieh group, which claimed responsibility for the attack. Tehran considers the group a terrorist and separatist entity.

ISIL also claimed it was behind the attack, which killed at least 29 people and injured 57 others during a military parade.

The Dutch and Danish governments are expected to extradite the perpetrators and their accomplices to Iran to stand trial, Qasemi said, adding that "it is not acceptable at all" for a spokesperson for the Al-Ahvazieh group to claim responsibility of the attack through a London-based TV network.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday the United States wants to create insecurity in the Islamic Republic.

Speaking before leaving Tehran to attend the UN General Assembly in New York, Rouhani accused US-backed Gulf Arab states of providing financial and military support for anti-government ethnic Arab groups.

Rouhani also criticized the US for acting like a bully who believes whoever has power can act with impunity around the world.

The Iranian president also vowed to overcome sanctions and make the US regret its aggressiveness.
