Chinese President Xi Jinping and Burkina Faso's President Roch Marc Christian Kabore agreed on Friday that the two countries will take the resumption of diplomatic ties as an opportunity and open a new chapter of friendly cooperation.
Kabore is on a state visit to China and will attend the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, scheduled for September 3-4.
Commenting on the upcoming summit, Xi said it will be the first time for Burkina Faso to take part in the gathering of the family of China-Africa friendly cooperation, adding that China highly appreciates Kabore's political decision to resume diplomatic ties with China.
China and Burkina Faso restored diplomatic relations in late May after the West African country cut ties with Taiwan. Beijing has repeatedly stressed that the one-China principle is the fundamental prerequisite and political foundation for the People's Republic of China (PRC) to establish and develop relations with any country.

China would like to further enhance political trust with Burkina Faso, promote bilateral cooperation in various areas, and open a new chapter of China-Burkina Faso friendly cooperation in the new era that is featured by equality and mutual trust as well as win-win cooperation, Xi noted.
Kabore said Burkina Faso recognizes that there is but one China in the world, and that the government of the PRC is the sole legal government representing the whole of China.
Burkina Faso highly appreciates China's commitment to multilateralism in international affairs and its call for win-win cooperation, said Kabore. Burkina Faso also appreciates the fact that China attaches great importance to the voice of the African people and supports Africa's development.
Kabore stressed that Burkina Faso had made the decision to resume diplomatic ties with China independently, noting that the decision was completely in line with the direction of his country's future development.
Burkina Faso is willing to learn from China's vision of development, enhance political trust with Beijing, and deepen bilateral cooperation in various areas.
