China's CPI up 1.8%, PPI 4.1% in May

China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose by 1.8 percent year-on-year in May and was down 0.2 percent month-on-month, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed Saturday.

China's producer price index (PPI), which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, rose by 4.1 percent year-on-year the same month.
The PPI figure also posted a month-on-month rise of 0.4 percent, reversing the declining trend since February, according to the NBS.
