The number of China's online users hit 802 million at the end of June, up 3.8 percent from six months ago, according to a report on China's Internet development released Monday.
A total of 788 million Chinese people used mobile phones to surf the Internet, making up 98.3 percent of the online population, while the rate of users using desktops and laptops to go online fell by 4.1 percent and 1.3 percent compared to the end of 2017, said the 42nd statistical report from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC),

At the same time, China's Internet availability rate reached 57.7 percent, with 26.3 percent of the total Internet population living in rural areas.
China's international Internet gateway bandwidth also expanded to 8,826,302 Mbps, up 20.6 percent from the end of 2017, said the CNNIC.

The mode of “Internet plus transportation” continues to develop, as both online car-hailing and bike-sharing services see growth. There are 346 million users of online taxi-hailing services in China by June, and 299 million users hail express or premier cars online, which respectively increased by 20.8 and 26.5 percent compared to the end of 2017. The number of shared bikes reached 245 million, with a penetration rate among netizens of 30.6 percent.
New achievements have also been made in the development of online government services. A total of 470 million users opt for online government services, 42.1 percent of whom get access to these services via platforms of Alipay or WeChat, according to the report.
