China and Indonesia should strengthen cooperation in areas including finance, digital commerce and people-to-people exchanges, said Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday when meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
President Xi, who is currently in Papua New Guinea (PNG) for a state visit, made the remarks in Port Moresby, the capital city of PNG.
He stressed China's willingness to maintain high-level communication with Indonesia and lead bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.
Together with Indonesia, China is willing to jointly promote the optimization and upgrading of China-ASEAN ties, as well as the development of East Asian cooperation, and enhance communication and coordination within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Xi added.
The Indonesian leader said his country is very pleased to have reached a series of important cooperation agreements with China and is willing to communicate closely with China in international and regional affairs.
Widodo expressed his gratitude for China's help in the relief work after the recent earthquake and tsunami that hit the island of Sulawesi.
Widodo added that he supported the development of ASEAN-China relations, and is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China in international and regional affairs. The Indonesian President also congratulated China on the success of the just-concluded China International Import Expo.
