The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) staged a grand military parade in Pyongyang on Sunday to mark its 70th anniversary as a nation.

The parade saw regular army soldiers goose-stepping in formation, followed by a selection of tanks and other military hardware.

However, there was no sign of intercontinental ballistic missiles - the Hwasong-14 and -15 rockets. The rockets were first tested in 2017 and reportedly could reach the mainland United States and change the regional and international strategic balance.

In a speech on Sunday, the president of the Presidium of the DPRK's Supreme People’s Assembly, Kim Yong Nam, lauded the country and its army as "the strongest in the world" but did not mention its nuclear capacity.

Immediately after the military parade, thousands of citizens walked through Kim Il Sung Square alongside floats displaying economic themes and calling for Korean reunification.

DPRK leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the two-hour event but did not address the large crowd.
