The NBA regular season finished Wednesday with 11 games. The Boston Celtics defeated the Washington Wizards 130-125 in overtime, thanks to Kyrie Irving's two consecutive three-pointers in less than 20 seconds. The New Orleans Pelicans saw another 40+15 night by Anthony Davis and claimed a victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-114.

Boston's Irving scored a game-high 38 points, including the team's last 12 points in overtime. Marcus Morris put down 27 points and nine rebounds. Marcus Smart scored 18 points while Jason Tatum dropped 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Washington's John Wall was the team's top scorer with 34 points and 13 assists. Jeff Green and Bradley Bill put down 22 points plus 10 rebounds for Green. Kelly Oubre led the team's bench in scoring with 20 points.
Neither team was able to send their best squad for Wednesday's game as the Wizards lacked Otto Porter and Dwghit Howard while the Celtics did not have Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward and Al Horford.

Boston for most of the regular time struggled with their shooting as evidenced by their 28.95 percent of 3-pt rate. The Wizards in offense did two things right: first, speeding up the pace to lead 19-4 in early offense scoring. Second, letting John Wall play mismatched confronting big men after setting the screen. Since Boston did not have their best inside defender in Horford, neither Aron Baynes nor Robert Williams III could stop him.
Irving and Wall carried their team's offense respectively in the third and fourth quarter and the game ended with a 113-113 tie after 48 minutes of regular time. Wall stood out again for his team in OT by scoring five points and assisting Bill with a three-pointer. However, the rest of the overtime belonged to Irving who dropped 12 of the team's 17 points, including two consecutive three-balls right in front of Wall in less than 20 seconds. In the end, The Celtics took their seventh win in a row and handed the third straight loss to the Wizards.

Anthony Davis scores season-high 44 points to help Pelicans win

New Orleans' Davis again dominated the court with 44 points, including 18 in the third quarter, and 18 rebounds. According to ESPN, this was the 15th time for Davis to put down at least 40+15 numbers, only next to Shaquille O'Neal's 19 times since 1983. Julius Randle and Jrue Holiday respectively dropped 22 points+12 rebounds and 20 points+10 assists.
OKC saw four of their players scoring over 20+points: Paul George made the highest 25 points plus 11 rebounds. Russell Westbrook and Steven Adams both put down 20 points but Westbrook also committed seven turnovers along with his seven assists. Dennis Schroder from the bench scored 24 points.

As the Pelicans could not send Nikola Mirotic and E'Twaun Moore, two of the team's most important 3-pt shooters, the Thunder from the beginning focused more on the paint in defense. However, while New Orleans failed to respond from the 3-pt line (4/18), the team destroyed Oklahoma City from inside by scoring 74 points in the restricted area and leading in rebounds 56-39. No matter who's defending Davis, the 2.08-meter big man was always able to score and grab offense rebounds.
By contrast, the Thunder though making 13 three-pointers, failed to punish the Pelicans' defense tactics of filling up the paint as they never made consecutive shots from the 3-pt line. The only reason that the game remained hopeful for OKC until the end was that the team launched their signature aggressive defense in the last minute, forcing two turnovers by New Orleans and turning them into five points in transition.

However, as both Westbrook and Alex Abrines missed their last three-pointer, OKC had to accept a loss of 118-114 to the Pelicans and the fact that they were no longer No.1 in the Western Conference.
