China is ready to work with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to build a closer community with a shared future.
Chinese President Xi Jinping made the remarks on Friday when meeting with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who is in China for the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) scheduled for April 25-27.
China will strengthen cooperation with Thailand in building the China-Thailand railway and developing Eastern Economic Corridor, he noted.
Xi added that China will fully support Thailand to fulfill its duties as chair of the ASEAN.
The Thai prime minister spoke highly of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) which has made rapid progress over the past six years and said that Thailand will further participate in BRI cooperation.
As the rotating chair of the ASEAN, Thailand is willing to promote ASEAN-China cooperation, he added.
ASEAN was established in August 1967 by the five founding member states, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
