Every year from May to August, Qinghai Lake's naked carp migrate upstream to lay eggs in freshwater. The naked carp leap over barriers and march countercurrent before finding their resting place. In the 1990s, the carp population decreased drastically due to unrestricted fishing. Later, a stair-shaped river dam was built specifically for the migration.
