Mount Etna lit up the sky with bursts of sweltering hot lava as the Sicilian volcano lurched into activity. Rivers of red lava streamed down the slope of Europe's highest and most active volcano. The seismic activity started to rise on Thursday (May 30) evening and peaked around midnight. The Sicilian volcano can burst into action several times a year, spewing lava and ash high over the Mediterranean island.
