Gymnastics World Cup 2019: China’s Lan wins gold in Doha

China's Lan Xingyu won gold in the men's rings final on the second day of the FIG Gymnastics World Cup series in Doha. The 21-year-old, who was the 2018 world champion in men's team event, has now added his second international title with a flawless performance.

Among the eight gymnasts, who took part in the final, Lan was the sixth to perform. Rings was his strong suit, and he chose a difficulty degree of 6.4, the highest one possible. The steady performance earned him 8.7 points and also helped him to win the title with a total of 15.1 points.

Armenia's Artur Tovmasyan and compatriot Vahagn Davtyan grabbed second and third place.

Meanwhile, in the women's uneven bars, China's Fan Yilin was up against Belgium's Nina Derwael. Fan, who was the 2015 and 2017 world champion, was the second to last to perform.

After losing the gold medal in the Melbourne stop of the World Cup series while picking up injuries, she still chose a difficulty rate of 6.5 – a big challenge for the 19-year-old, who has recently recovered. But she delivered a brilliant performance with a slight spin problem on the landing but could still manage to receive 8.433 points.

Derwael was the reigning world champion in the event, and the 18-year-old edged past Fan by 0.1 points as she won with 15.033 points in total.
