China is closely following the detention of Huawei employee Wang Weijing by Poland's Internal Security Agency, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said late on Friday night.
According to the statement, the Chinese Embassy in Poland met with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the earliest opportunity, requesting the Polish side to brief them on the case and arrange consular visits as soon as possible.
China asked Poland to handle the case lawfully, fairly, properly and to effectively guarantee the legitimate rights of the person, his safety and his humanitarian treatment, MOFA said.
Earlier on Friday, Polish media reported that the country has arrested a Chinese employee of Huawei and a Polish national involved in cyber business on allegations of spying.
Huawei responded shortly, saying the company complies with all applicable laws.
"We are aware of the situation, and we are looking into it. We have no comment for the time being," Huawei said.
"Huawei complies with all applicable laws and regulations in the countries where it operates, and we require every employee to abide by the laws and regulations in the countries where they are based," it added.
