In the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) League, a magnificent haul of 24 points in 27 minutes by Yi Jianlian helped the Guangdong Southern Tigers to a 124-106 win against the Nanjing Monkey Kings.

The eight-time champions have now extended their unbeaten streak to 18 games since the start of the regular season and are currently five victories away from the all-time record of 23 wins, registered by Yao Ming's Shanghai Sharks in 2001-02 season.

In the opening quarter of the game, Malcolm Delaney's three points gave Guangdong a double-digit lead. A dunk from Yi came next as the Southern Tigers scored 41 points by the end of the first buzzer.

Duncan Reid's lay-up in the second reduced the deficit to 12 for Nanjing but Guangdong continued to go for the kill. Isaiah Austin's bucket still left the home-side behind by 13 in the second quarter.

In the third, Joe Young found Austin for the alley-hoop, part of his 31 for the night, as the Monkey Kings trailed 74-90.

But a three-point play from Sonny Weems gave Guangdong a 20-point edge going into the final period. Then, a jumper from Zhou Peng made it 103-85 before the penultimate buzzer.

When rookie Wan Shengwei twisted and turned to score his first two points in the CBA, the Southern Tigers notched up another victory to make it 18 undefeated in a row.
