Japan started collecting a departure tax on Monday of one thousand yen (about 9 U.S. dollars) from each person leaving the country. Everyone will have to pay the International Tourist Tax, regardless of nationality, and it will be tacked onto the price of a flight or boat ticket. However, children under two years old and those transiting within 24 hours are exempt. Click the video to find out why the Japanese government has introduced this new tax.
