At the ongoing WPBSA International Championship in Daqing, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, Chinese No.1 player Ding Junhui edged past his compatriot Zhang Anda 6-4 in the opening round on Monday.
The two players were leveled at 4 in the first 8 frames before Ding eventually got better over his countryman by sinking the decisive black in the ninth.
Ding sank the black to win the first frame 61-56 but Zhang posed difficulties to Ding in the second frame, as he hid the cue ball among the red.
The two then leveled at 4 apiece and after clearing all the balls, the win was still not decided as they were tied at 61 points in the ninth frame.
The win was finally decided by hitting the black as Ding finally sank it into the pocket to lead 5-4.
Zhang made mistakes as he sank the cue ball into the pocket while striking the red in the tenth.
Ding subsequently won the tenth 74-34 and advanced to the next round with an overall score of 6-4. Ding now plays against Zhao Xintong, who downed James Wattana 6-5 in the first round.
